Governor Sindh inaugurates Polio Vaccine Campaign

Governor of Sindh, Dr. Ishrat Ul Ebad Khan has said that for better and sustainable result during polio campaigns female workers from local communities have been hired to ensure that each and every children specially in vulnerable communities gets polio vaccine. He said this while inaugurating a three- day polio vaccination campaign in the province at Hilal e Ahmer Hospital, Karachi. Commissioner of Karachi, Syed Asif Hyder Shah was also present on the occasion.

Dr. Ishrat Ul Ebad khan further said that these polio workers are also engaged in clearing the misconceptions and reservations regarding the vaccine as they have better reach and access in their local communities. Regarding security of polio workers, he said that the cases of refusals and resistance have decreased considerably as the parents now know that polio drops are pivotal to save their children from disability for life and as such they ensure the same during polio campaigns.

He said that it was our collective responsibility to create awareness about the benefits of polio drops in our respective circles, he added and said that for that very reason people form all walks of life are approached during such polio initiatives. He was of opinion that polio eradication from our country was very essential for our rapid economic growth because there is a constant threat of travel restrictions in case of continuing polio cases from Pakistan. It is worth mentioning that the operation in Tribal areas has minimized the emergence of polio cases from the area as more and more children are being given polio drops, he added.

Commissioner Karachi, Syed Asif Hyder Shah informed the Governor Sindh that 2.2 million children would be administered polio vaccine during the campaign for which more than 6000 teams have been constituted.
