Dow University establishes Ponseti Club Foot Clinic to patients with congenital deformities

Foot deformities are very common in newborn children. Globally, 2,50,000 children are affected from congenital deformities. The large number of congenital deformities occurs in Africa followed by Asia. This deformity is more in boys as compare to girls. The majority of foot deformity can be treated without operation i.e. Ponseti method which is cost effective method, these views were expressed by Prof. Noor Elahi, Ex-Professor, Dow Medical College, Prof. Masood Hameed Khan, Vice Chancellor, DUHS, Prof. Rana Qamar, Prof. M. Sarwar and Dr. Nusrat at a Ceremony to inaugurate Ponseti Club Foot Clinic at Ojha Campus. It was attended by senior faculty members and orthopaediatric surgeons.

Prof. Noor Elahi, Ex-Professor, Dow Medical College sharing his view said that this this dedicated work should be carried on. He appre-ciated the efforts of Prof. Masood Hameed for the new developments.

Prof. Masood Hameed Khan, Dr. Rana Qamar and Dr. M. Sarwar paid rich tribute to Prof. Noor Elahi who always taught his students with full dedication and honesty. He said that teachers are the mentor and they feel happy to see their students excel. He stressed that younger generation should learn more from the experiences of their teachers.

Dr. Nusrat said that the majority of clubfeet can be corrected in infancy in about six to eight weeks with the proper gentle mani-pulations and plaster casts. The treatment is based on a sound under-standing of the functional anatomy of the foot and of the biological response of muscles.

 

Later on, Prof. Masood Hameed Khan presented DUHS momento to Prof. Noor Ellahi.
