Governor Sindh inaugurates 400-beds tertiary care teaching hospital at DUHS Ojha campus

Governor Sindh, Dr. Ishrat Ul Ebad Khan alongwith Prof. Dr.Masood Hameed Khan, Vice Chancellor-DUHS, Prof. M. Umer Farooq, Pro- Vice Chancellor-DUHS and Prof. Dr. Junaid Ashraf Principal-Dow Medical College and senior professor and faculty members inaugurated DUHS various project including 400-bedded tertiary care teaching University Hospital, Dow College of Pharmacy, Gymnasium and Boy hostel today at Ojha Campus of Dow University Hospital Karachi.

Governor of Sindh, Dr. Ishrat Ul Ebad as the Chancellor of the University announced to make Dow University a Medical and Research Complex of Pakistan in future. He further said that Govt of Sindh is working hard to provide quality education. Since its establishment nearly seven years ago, DUHS has undergone tremendous expansion under the able and dynamic leadership of its first Vice chancellor, Prof. Masood Hameed Khan with the establishment of 50 new institutes. He appreciated the efforts of faculty members in the establishment and the developments of the University. He said that it is essential for us to ensure that the investment of country into our education would well return to the society.

Prof. Masood Hameed sharing his views on the occasion said that this hospital is established to meet the growing demand of healthcare services and to enhance the patients experience. The University since its inception has been aiming to provide maximum possible health services to the community through various ways. He recounted the progress of the University since its inception. He highlighted the developments of the University since its inception. He informed that since it was first established in 2003 from three constituent institutions to now with almost 40 institutions.

He said that the vision and mission of DUHS is focused on three domains that include academic excellence, human resource development and community healthcare.

Briefing about the hospital, he said that it has 400-beds to serve for teaching & training of undergraduate students of DIMC & postgraduate students. It also serves as a teaching unit for Institute of Nursing & Clinical Pharmacology rotation for students of college of pharmacy, housed adjacent to university hospital at Ojha campus of Dow University. This university hospital is also supported with the diagnostic facilities from Dow Diagnostic & Research laboratories (DDRRL) & Dow Radiology, both of them are equipped with cutting edge technology & well trained technologists & faculty. This hospital is equipped with Operation theater complex, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Neonatal Care Unit (NICU) to support all kind of operations and care for critically ill patients respectively. All types of major and minor surgeries are being performed by expert consultant. Labour room is also functional round the clock along with intensive care unit, which is fully equipped.
