Pakistan is the country which has high mortality and morbidity rate. The health indicators of Pakistan are very poor whereas the education standard of the country is deteriorating. There is need to look into the quality of education in Pakistan. More research should come up to improve the health situation in Pakistan. She stressed the need to provide platform to enhance research activities in developing countries and also stressed on the medical universities to facilitate research work of their students and faculty members. These views were expressed by Hon. Ms. Saira Afzal Tarar, State Minister for National Health Services, Regulations & Coordination at Annual Research Day 2015 organized by Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) at its Ojha Campus.
The Annual Research Day aimed to showcase the research in posters presentations being conducted by the faculty members and student throughout the year and to serve as a forum for interaction among faculty members and student.
She further said that it is pleased to know that Dow University is providing research grants to the students and faculty members to do research. He congratulated Prof. Masood Hameed Khan and Research Department of regularly holding research activities.
Prof. Masood Hameed Khan in his remarks said that said that the motivation to observer faculty research day is to enhance the enthusiasm towards performance of quality researches. The purpose of research is the creation of knowledge. Dow University is providing platform for research activities and it is the duty of young scientist to take it at highest level. Different institutions are recognized by their research work and here at Dow University, we have allocated special funds forresearch activities. He also congratulated the winner of faculty research day.
Dr. Kashif Shafique, Vice Dean, School of Public Health, DUHS informed that Research Department at Dow University is providing facilities which includes undergraduate research program, registration
of research projects, faculty profile, abstract books etc. The Depart-ment is providing both academic related activities as well as research related activities and also publishing Journal of DUHS which was initiated in 2006. It is peer-reviewed journal and is approved by PMDC.
Earlier, Prof. Junaid Ashraf, Principal, Dow Medical College, Dr. Talat Roomi, Dr. Hassan also spoke on the occasion. In the end, the shields for the best poster presentation were awarded. The authors of best selected posters from different areas of research will be awarded and the authors of top ranked posters was requested to present their abstract through a Power Point presentation at the Annual Research Day.
