World Hepatitis day observed with free Hepatitis screening camp at Dow University

Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) organised an Awareness Program and Walk alongwith Free Hepatitis B & C Screening Camp for the general public on World Hepatitis Day 2016 at Dow University Ojha Campus.

The Walk was led by Fouding Vice Chancellor DUHS, Prof. Masood Hammed Khan, Director Liver Centre, Prof. Rana Qamar Masood, Faculty members, Staff, Patients and donors who had successful liver transplant at Dow University.

Prof. Masood Hameed Khan said that Heptaitis B & C is spreading very fast in Pakistan. Hence

we need to adopt preventive measures as prevention is better than cure. He also mentioned the objectives achieved by Liver Centre at Dow University which has now also started Liver Transplant. Alhamd-o-Lillah 3 patients who had Liver transplant at Dow University 3-months

back are prefectly healthy and leading normal life. He emphasized on the concept of transfer of knoweldge so that more centre of Liver Transplant can be established in the

coutnry to help general public.

Prof. Rana Qamar, Director, Liver Transplant Unit, DUHS said that World Hepatitis Day is observed every year aimed to encourage prevention, diagnosis and treatment. Pakistan ranked 3rd in Hepatitis affecting hundreds of millions of people worldwide, causing acute and chronic disease and killing million people every year. It is a disease which had no complication; therefore, diagnosing the disease at early stage and proper treatment reduces the disease by 90 percent.

Earlier, Prof. Shams Nadeem Alam, Dr. Hafeez Ullah Shakh, Dr. Manzoor, Dr. Abdullah Bin Khalid, Dr. Sabihta Shaikh briefed the participants about liver disease and its prevention.

At the end of the Awareness Program, the panel of experts answered the qureirs of general public regarding hepatitis and its prevention. Later on, patietns who had successful liver transplant with their donor also answered the questions of the public mentioning the experience of the disease and transplant operation at Dow University. They also replied answers to the question regarding prevention of hepatitis and present state of health which is perfectively healthy.
