A Workshop was held by the German DevelopWorkshop to align GDC health sector strategy with national health policyment Cooperation (GDC) for building consensus with stake-holders on the upcoming GDC Health Sector Strategy on June 4, 2009 at Islamabad Club.

  The purpose of the workshop was to align the GDC Sector Strategy to the new National Health Policy of Pakistan and to discuss various options for future implementations arrangements of GDC Health Program. This joint strategy will form the basis of the Development Co-operation (GDC) Health Program in Pakistan which will start in 2010.

  Dr. Rasheed Jooma, Director General Health highly appreciated GDC initiative in aligning their sector strategy with national health policy and promised to take the cause further.

  He further said that, it would give a hapic for the development agencies working in Pakistan to be able to do exactly what GDC is setting out to do today.

  At all level of the health system, district, the provincial government, the federal government should mandate and grantee a quantum and level of services. Through this initiatives should able to reduce all the negativities that a social health protection tries to address.

  The private sector pre-dominantly delivering services in the country and there is a general feeling that the utilization is poor. One of the important objective is to improve the utilization which is link in improving services.

  To improve the services, we need to make sure that we are able to provide facilityof an appropriate confi-guration, the healthcare personnel, the workforce, equipped with the latest technologies and medication that are required and have a clear vision, he added.

  The contribution of external development partners is very important in this regard. The role need a considerable degree of development and evaluation.

  Mr. Marcus von Essen, First Secretary, Head Economic Cooperation and Develop-ment, Embassy of Germany, Pakistan in his concluding remarks said that such interactions would go a long way in harmonizing the efforts of the two governments.

  Representatives from Ministry of Health, Planning Commission, Economic Affairs Division, Provincial Health Departments and external development partners like WHO, DFID, World Bank, UNICEF, JICA, and AUSAID attended the workshop.
