Workshop on Molecular & Immunodiagnostics at DUHS

Experts at a Workshop emphasized on the need to create an atmosphere for exchange of ideas on the emerging trends in molecular and immunodiagnostic research and to create awareness among the student about the importance of analytical tools in diagnosis. These views were expressed by experts at a 3-days hands-on training Workshop on ‘Molecular and Immunodiagnostics’ organized by Department of Molecular Pathology, Dow University of Health Sciences in collaboration with the American Society for Microbiology and Pakistan Society for Microbiology at Dow University Ojha Campus, Karachi. The experts include Renown-

ed Scientist Dr. Ata-Ur-Rehman, Prof. Dr. Shahana Urooj Kazmi of Karachi University, Prof. M. Umar Farooq, Acting Vice Chancellor, DUHS, Dr. Saeed Khan, Head of Molecular Pathology, DUHS, Dr. Shaheen Sharafat, Dr. Asif Qureshi, Dr. Samreen Soomro, Dr. Adnan Khan and others. The workshop witnessed a high strength of National and International participants. National participants are not only from Karachi but also from different cities of Pakistan such as Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar, Mansehra, Haripur KPK, D.I Khan, Gilgit, Multan, Quetta,Khairpur,Larkana, Jamshoro and Hyderabad etc. The international participants from Nepal and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia also attended the Workshop.

Experts further reveled that Molecular and Immunodiagnostic Research captures the express patterns in the field of proteomics and genomics which helps in understanding the mechanism in under-standing the mechanism of disease at molecular level and aids in the development of new molecules for further diagnosis and treatment of various diseases like diabetes, cancer etc. A number of immuno-diagnostics tests are being developed to help identify antibodies to viruses that can cause serious complications when present in patients taking one of several new immune-modulating therapies. Immuno-diagnostics not only tends to originate from large reference laboratory companies with a strong competency in infectious disease testing.

They further said that it is glad to know Department of Molecular Pathology, Microbiology and Histopathology, DUHS has state of the art facilities and equipment, excellent quality control maintenance, dedicated staff and an impeccable reputation for arranging scientific events. This Workshop will train the participants in the latest molecular and immunodiagnostic techniques on the exce-llent and latest training facilities available in their lab and would spread the variety of knowledge and expertise forward and

will also provide participant hands-on experience in PCR-based methods used in diag-nosis, conventional and traditional methods used in microbiology as well as molecular immunodiagnostic.
