Training Workshop on Regulatory Aspects of Blood Banking

Safe Blood Transfusion Program (SBTP) organized a Training Workshop at the Department of Pathology, Federal Government Polyclinic Hospital, Islamabad on the Regulatory Aspects of Blood Banking. The workshop was attended by the management and technical representatives of blood banks operating in the Islamabad Capital Territory.

The workshop highlighted the significance of the need for regulation in transfusion medicine, and increased the awareness of participants on licensing procedures, basic blood bank services, documentation and the utilization of operational tools developed by the Safe Blood Transfusion Programme.

Technical presentations were made by transfusion medicine experts namely, Dr. Muhammad Arshad, Dr. Humayoon Shafique Satti, Dr. Shareef Astori, Dr. Muhammad Rehan, and Usman Waheed. The presentations were related to the standardized blood banks processes in the vein-to-vein transfusion chain and were very well received by the participants. The experts discussed in detail the quality criteria in each section. A detailed discussion on the inspection checklist was also done.

The concluding session was chaired by Dr. Zahid Larak, Executive Director, FGPC, Prof. Hasan Abbas Zaheer, National Coordinator SBTP, Dr. Syed Imtiaz Hasan, Head of Pathology FGPC, Dr. Amir Maqbool, Deputy Director SBTP and Dr. Roohi Khalil, Haematologist, FGPC. The Executive Director FGPC appreciated the efforts of SBTP in adopting an educational approach to strengthen the regulatory work. He distributed certificates among the participants.
