Teach for Pakistan hosted its annual reception

Teach For Pakistan, an initiative of the AMAN Foundation, hosted its annual reception at Avari Hotel in Karachi today. The ceremony was held to bring together multiple stakeholders to help enable quality education for students across Pakistan.

Founded in 2010 with the support of AMAN Foundation, Teach For Pakistan is a nationwide movement of outstanding graduates who commit two years to teach in under-resourced schools and go on to become lifelong leaders working to expand educational equity.

The event was organized to inspire stakeholders from multiple industries to become part of a movement to improve educational opportunities and life prospects for students and help develop the leaders of tomorrow. Ms. Wendy Kopp, Founder of Teach For America, and Founder and CEO of Teach For All participated as the Chief Guest and addressed the audience.

In her speech, Wendy said, “I am glad to see such big names coming for this noble cause. Together, we can change the dynamics of education in this country. 30 percent of Pakistanis live in extreme educational poverty, having received less than 2 years of education while 35 percent of the country’s population is under the age of 15.”

“We must act now to solve this educational crisis.  We need to maximize the potential for a stronger Pakistan; we have to ensure that all children receive an education that allows them to improve their life prospects” she added.

Ahsan Jamil, CEO AMAN Foundation said, “We are proud to be the founding member of this brilliant project. Education should never be linked with socio-economic backgrounds. Majority of our children are denied an education that prepares them for success in an increasingly competitive world. Teach For Pakistan is an initiative to endure sense of possibility for our students, communities and nation to become the best in the world. We are focused on achieving maximum outputs and excellence despite the numerous challenges we face.”

Fazal Pacheho (Secretary Education), Sadrudin Pardhan (AKU IED), Dinshaw Avari (Avari hotel) Nadeem Lodhi (Citibank), Ehsan Malik (Unilever), Ovais Naqvi (Abraaj group) and Sarfaraz Ahmed Rehman (Engro Foods) were other notable persons present at the reception.
