Students have always played a vital role in the promotion of community service in the society; they should make dedicated and altruistic community service the main theme of their lives. This was stated by Dr. Adibul Hasan Rizvi, Director, Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation on the occasion of Certificate Awarding Ceremony of 26th batch of Student Volunteer Program organized by Resource Generation and Outreach Department SIUT recently.
Dr. Adib further said that SIUT’s core philosophy of serving humanity invigorates the thought process of the students regarding acts of selflessness. Students are the pillars of the future and if they are guided at this tender age for the improvement of society then the coming future shall be brighter and we would be able to say that as a nation we are life savers not takers. He said programs of such nature enlighten the students regarding their roles and responsibilities in life. This is the sole reason that students eagerly attend the program. The effort of helping out humanity is reflected by the glow of happiness on their faces due to the sense of achievement. The participants should remember that they are the representatives of a philanthropic society and this is a great responsibility on their shoulders. Hence they should search for newer horizons in the field of social service and come forward to perform good deeds. He also paid a lot of tributes to the parents and the teachers.
Dr. Anwar Naqvi said in his address said that the volunteer programme of SIUT is an inspiration for students to come forward and implement this learning in their daily life. He informed about the volunteer programme and said that the students worked with the other staff members of the SIUT and provided non medical nursing services to the patients. The participants were also provided with first aid training.
The volunteers were also briefed about SIUT out- patient departments (OPD), radiology, clinical laboratory, dialysis, lithotripsy, transplantation and other medical/ surgical facilities. He praised the enthusiasm showed by the young volunteers during the training and said that 118 students completed 30 hours training in which they assisted parents, nurses and helped the patients in different wards. He informed that 2516 students have so far been trained by this programme since inception. He hoped the participants would follow this code of service throughout their lives. He reiterated that the concept of public service would be propagated in the society through these volunteers and shall flourish.
The ceremony was attended by a large number of parents, teachers and students.
