Servier Research & Pharmaceuticals Pakistan in collaboration with Mir Khalil-ur-Rehman Memorial Society (MKRMS) organized a scientific session on “New Advances in Blood Glucose & Blood Pressure” recently at a local hotel in Karachi.
Prof. Zaman Sheikh, Director, Ojha Insitute of Diabetes & Endocrinology, Karachi said that during past few year, media is doing excellent job in creating awareness. Unfortuna-
tely, in rural area there is less knowledge and awareness about these two diseases. Therefore proper control of blood pressure and diabetes is very important.
Dr. Mohammad Ishaq, Professor of Cardiology, Karachi Institute of Heart Diseases, Karachi said that Diabetes and hypertension today is a medical challenge. There is no direct symptoms in early stages of these diseases that why people does not know. We need to give more messages to the people that to check the status of your glucose, blood pressure, cholestrel regularly.
He further said that diabetes and blood pressure effects blood vessel, disturb its functions and create com-plications. Evidence shows that if strictly control this disease will prevent us from other major problems.
Dr. Maqbool Jaffery of Karachi Institute of Heart Diseases, Karachi said that if we observer we see that obesity is increasing day by day in Pakistan. Cigarette smoking is on the rise. The three main diseases that silently destroy of immune system are blood press, diabetes and cholesterol.
He urged the media to crate awareness among the masses because prevention is better than cure. Therefore media help is very important.
Dr. Shoaib Mushtaq, Group Product Manger, Servier Research & Pharmaceuticals Pakistan on the occasion said that cardiovascular disease and diabetes is one of the major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide
and it is increasing dramatically in developing countries like Pakistan. Prevention of cardiovascular diseases including hypertension related diseases is one of the major responsibility of the pharma industry and medical community.
He further said that the objective of present session was to act in the line of this objective along with media to increase the awareness. He informed told that Hypertension is one of the most prevalent medical condition which affect around one billion out of 6 billion population. Every sixth person is hypertensive in the world.
