Seminar on Role of MRI & CT Scan in Musculo Skeletal disorders at DUHS

Professional Development Centre (PDC), Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) as a part of  its CME Series in collaboration with Pakistan Orthopaedic Association (South) organized a Seminar on “Role of MRI & CT Scan in Musculo Skeletal disorders” on Friday 09, 2010 at Professional Development Centre of Dow Medical College, Karachi.

This workshop brings together advocates for and those with reservations about Orthopaedic to provide preliminary information about MRI & CT Scan. A large number of Orthopaedic surgeons, Faculty Members, PGs attended the seminar.

Prof. Atta Ur Rehman, Chairperson, Department of Orthopaedic, DUHS in his address welcomed the participants of the workshop. He briefed the participants about aims and objectives of the seminar. He said that this Seminar is organized to give orientation to the Orthopaedic surgeons and to increase their interest in this field.  He appreciated the efforts of organizing committee in organizing this informative workshop.

Dr. Rukhsana from Advance Radiology Centre spoke on “MRI in General & Limb Tumors. She said that MRI and CT Scan give a true reflection of the tumor dimensions. It is impossible, however, to make a reliable diagnosis with either technique. If both techniques are available, then MRI is to be preferred in view of the better spatial orientation and sharper contrast it offers between the tumor and adjacent structures. If only CT is available, then an adequate image can generally be obtained with this technique too.

Prof. Nadeem Ahmed, Head of Department of Radiology, Aga Khan University delivered his lecturer on “MRI, Internal Derangement of Knee Joint”. He said that MRI has been assumed a major role in investigating disorders of the knee, especially internal derangement. A particularly important asset of MRI is its very high negative predictive value.

Dr. Anwar Ahmed, Head of the Department Radiology, Ziauddin Medical University Hospital spoke in “MRI Spine” in which he said that An MRI of the spine shows the anatomy of the vertebrae that make up the spine, as well as the disks, spinal cord and the spaces between the vertebrae through which nerves pass. Currently, MRI is the most sensitive imaging test of the spine in routine clinical practice.

The Seminar concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Mujahid Humail. The certificates were distributed by Prof. Prof. Atta Ur Rehman amongst all the participants.
