A dinner reception was hosted by Saeed Allawala Managing Director, ATCO Laboratories in honour of newly elected Chairman of PPMA Zahid Saeed, and other Executive Committee Members at his residence in Karachi.
The reception was largely attended by a number of members of Executive Committee of PPMA, Chief Executive of different Pharmaceuticals Industry, officials of Quality Control Authority and Medical Press.
On the occasion, Saeed Allawala Managing Director of ATCO Laboratories said that pharmaceuticals industry is blamed of using many unethical marketing practices in the country, therefore we should come up and clear the negative impact of the industry.
He further said currently Pharma industry is facing lot of problems that should be resolved. The price increment issue is also the one that need to be focused. This discrimination hurts the pharma industry. Prices of different eatables are increasing day by day, but whenever one talks about the increase in drug prices faces disappointment.
Pakistan’s present drug exports have reached one hundred six million dollars and there is still lot of potential to increase it further. India exports drugs worth billions of dollars and they have accomplished a lot because the Indian Government gave protection to the national industry.
Zahid Saeed, new Chairman of PPMA and Chief Executive of Indus Pharma in his address recalled that on October 8, 2008 earthquake, the pharma industry response was greatly appreciated by Government of Pakistan. The stock was so much that it clear the negative thought of pharma industry.
He also recalled the visit of Iraqi Health Minister in Pakistan and the remarked by him that if they had just 50 per cent of the pharma industry like Pakistan has, they would have saved over a million children. Clarifying the negative impact he said, PPMA never supports unethical people in the pharma industry.
The increase in prices stills a problem for pharma industry. Pharma industry should clear its negative impact in the regard. With the increase of daily eatable item, the price of drug should also be increased.
Earlier, Khawaja Mohammad Asad, Vice Chairman of PPMA & Managing Director, Global Pharma, Sultan Chawla President, FCC & I, Kaiser Waheed, Chief Executive, Medisure International also spoke on the occasion.
