Progress of TB/HIV Global Fund Round 6 activities reviewed

To review the progress of TB/HIV Global Fund Round 6 activities being conducted in Sindh province, Bridge Consultants Foundation in collaboration with Sindh TB Control Program and Sindh AIDS Control Program supported by National TB Control Program, GFATM Round 6 arranged a Sindh TB/HIV Collaborative Committee Meeting at a local hotel in Karachi.

Dr. Abdul Sattar Korai, Director General Health Sindh speaking as a chief guest on the occasion appreciated the efforts of Bridge Consultant Foundation and Provincial TB Program Managers in creating awareness and reducing the number of TB/HIV patients in Sindh.

He emphasized to hold such training programs regularly and improving the monitoring of the ARV Centre. He also said that there is need of clearing the lack of coordination in the program.

Dr. Zafar Iqbal Toor, National Coordinator, TB/HIV GR R-6 lauded the efforts Bridge Consultants Foundation for organizing such an informative meeting. These kind of meetings will be help to share and identify the gaps in the program. He requested to include PLHVA patients in future meetings.

Dr. Nasir Jalbani, Provincial Manager, Sindh AIDS Control Program sharing his views said that there is need to fully fill up the gaps. Such kind of meeting will help up to skill up the project.

He stressed on the need to scaling up the programs to other affected districts for further care and support. There is also need to have such meeting on regular basis because it will be helpful for us to identify gap and faults in the program.

Dr. Sharaf Ali Shah, Executive Director, Bridge Consultants Foundation said that the objective of the meeting is to review the progress of TB/HIV Global Fund Round 6 activities being conducted in Sindh province. It is the forth meeting and enormous progress has been made as far as the coordination of TB/HIV is concern.

Even those DOT centre which are not implementing currently TB/HIV, they should understand TB/HIV co-infection and prepare them for the implementation of the program. We have completed our two years activity in Sindh province furthermore we have planned to launch Operational Research to look at the impact of our activities.

Earlier, Dr. Umer Abro, Project Manager, Bridge Consultants Foundation gave an overview of the activities conducted by the component including the number of TB patient which are tested and counseled for HIV/AIDS and the total number of HIV affected individuals identified and registered with ARV centres for the treatment.

He also briefly discussed the number of AIDS patients who have been screening for TB and number suspected identified and confirm cases and the issues which includes training, conducted to build capacity of our DOT centre regard HIV.
