Prof. Atta-ur-Rahman, President of Network of Academies of Science of OIC Member States (NASIC) is co-chairing (along with the US Nobel Laureate Prof. Ferid Murad) two major inter-national conferences being held in Boston.

A senior professor of the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), University of Karachi (UoK) said that this was an honour for Pakistan to head the international science conference in the US where number of Nobel Laureate professors and scientists of the world are participating.

He said that the first conference entitled “Drug Discovery and Therapy World Congress 2015” brings together a number of Nobel Laureates and about 600 top scientists from all over the world to discuss important international breakthroughs in drug discovery and new therapeutics.

The second conference entitled “Global Biotechnology Congress 2015” provides a platform for researchers and decision makers in biotechnology to present their latest findings and learn about all the important developments in biotech-nology, he said and added that many Nobel Laureates and world’s renowned experts are participating in this conference also.

He said, “The conference is focusing on the translational nature of biotechnological research, with emphasis on both the basic science as well as its applications in industry and academia. Boston

is a major hub of world science with MIT, Harvard University, Harvard Medical School, and a large number of other leading world universities and pharmaceutical research companies and medical research Centres located in it and it is an ideal location to attract top scientists from the world to it.

Prof. Rahman has 1002 publications in several fields of organic chemistry including 724 research publications, 37 inter-national patents, 68 chapters in books and, 173 books published largely by major US and European presses.

He is the Editor-in-Chief of eight European Chemistry Journals and Editor of the world’s leading encyclopedic series of volumes on natural products “Studies in Natural Product Chemistry” 47 volumes of which have been published under his Editorship during the last two decades. Eighty two students have completed their Ph.D. degrees under his supervision. Prof. Rahman was elected Fellow of Royal Society (London) (2006) and won the prestigious UNESCO Science Prize (1999).

Prof. Rahman is the most decorated scientist of Pakistan, having won four civil awards Tamgha-i-Imtiaz, Sitara-i-Imtiaz, Hilal-i-Imtiaz, and the nation’s highest civil award, Nishan-i-Imtiaz.

Vice Chancellor Karachi University (KU) Prof. Dr. Muhammad Qaiser and Director ICCBS-KU Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary have congratulated him for his great achievement.
