Offer of COMSATS membership extended to Republic of Turkey

The Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South (COMSATS), which is an inter-governmental organization based in Pakistan has currently twenty-one countries as its Members.

In order to explore the possibility of Turkey joining the organization as a Member State, the Executive Director visited the Headquarter of TÜB?TAK (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey) in Ankara and extended offer of COMSATS’ Membership. The scope of COMSATS’ activities relevant to the interests of Turkey were thoroughly discussed on this occasion.

The presentation about the role of TÜB?TAK for S&T development in Turkey was made by the Vice President, Prof. Dr. Ömer Anla?an. The Executive Director COMSATS informed our staff reporter that Turkey has an advanced R&D infrastructure and rapidly developing industries relevant to information technology, space technology, machinery, construction, aviation, shipping and automobiles. COMSATS has already strong ties with one of the most prestigious institutions working under TÜB?TAK – The Marmara Research Centre, which is a Centre of Excellence affiliated with COMSATS since 1994.

COMSATS performs its role as a facilitator of South – South Cooperation in Science and Technology through networking scientists within its sixteen Centres-of-Excellence spreaded in three continents.
