Latest radiology methods to treat, diagnosis patients suffering from various diseases started at Dow University

Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) is the first in public sector to start latest radiology methods to treat and daignosis patients without surgery suffering from various diseases including Liver and Kidney Cancers. The Interventional Radiology is the method to treat wide range of diseases including their palliation by inserting small tubes, needles and stunts using ultrasound, CT Scan and X-ray guidance.

Few of the major VIR procedures includes Tumor Embolization for Uterine Fibroid, Radiofrequency Ablation of Liver and Kidney Tumors, Peripheral Angioplasty Diabetic Foot, Transjuglar Intraheptic Portosystemic Shunt (TIPs) in patients with advance Cirrhosis etc etc.

The Vascular Interventional Radiology (VIR) Clinics have been started at OPD Block, DUHS Ojha Campus. The Inauguration of the Clinic was done by Prof. Masood Hameed Khan, Founding Vice Chancellor, DUHS.

Prof. Masood Hameed Khan in his remarks appreciated the efforts of Dow Institute of Radiology in establishing VIR Clinics and hoped that it will go a long way in serving patients with advance disease by providing state-of-the-art treatment facility at highly economical cost.

Dr. Muhammad Munawar, Director, Dow Institute of Radiology, DUHS said that the VIR techniques have diagnostic and therapeutic role without surgrical intervention with minimum pain. This also eliminates the need for prolong hospitalization of such patients. Highly qualified interventional radiologists are available in this clinic for expert opinion and to provide advance treatment.

The Inaugural Ceremony was well attended by faculty and staff including renowned Interventional Radiologist Dr. Shahbaz Ahmed Qazi from Riyad KSA, who is a visiting faculty of DUHS besides other senior faculty members of the University and postgraduate trainees.
