ICCBS-UoK signed MoU with US University

International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), University of Karachi (UoK), has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Chapman University, USA. As per the agreement, the two institutions will endeavour to strengthen, promote and develop academic and research co-operation between the two countries on the basis of equality and mutual benefit.

According to an official of the ICCBS, the memorandum of understanding was signed in a ceremony recently held at the campus of Chapman University in Southern California, USA. Director ICCBS-UoK Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary and President Chapman University Prof. Dr. Daniele C. Struppa signed the MoU on behalf of their institutions.

On the occasion, Dr. Iqbal Choudhary said that International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences is a cluster of many leading institutions which include H. E. J. Research Institute of Chemistry and Dr. Panjwani Center for Molecular Medicine and Drug Research (PCMD). In addition to these two main institutions, ICCBS has 10 research buildings that house some of the region’s most sophisticated laboratories, he maintained.

He said that ICCBS at the University of Karachi was regarded as one of the finest academic research establishments of chemical sciences in the developing world. He said that ICCBS was the only institution in Pakistan which was not only certified by ISO but it also became ‘UNESCO Centre for Excellence Category-2 Institute’.

As per MoU, it was agreed that exchange of research staff and facilities will take place between both the institutions. The areas of cooperation include joint supervision of graduate students, including Masters and Ph. D. students and researchers in the areas of chemistry, biology, biotechnology, molecular medicine, pharmacology, and natural and life sciences. Establishment of joint research laboratories at ICCBS and Chapman University is also a main area of cooperation in order to increase research productivity through sharing the research facility. This will develop linkages between academicians and researchers. This agreement will be effective for a period of five years from the date of signing.
