Government initiative to promote Blood Transfusion Project launched

National AIDS Control Program (NACP) arranged a function to celebrate the World Blood Donor Day 2009.It was held at the National Institute of Health, Islamabad. Federal Minister for Health Mir Ejaz Hussain Jhakrani was the chief guest on the occasion. Other guests included Khushnood Lashari, Secretary Health; Dr. Mahreen Razzaque Bhutto, Parliamentary Secretary for Health; Dr. Birjees Mazher Kazi, Executive Director NIH; Dr. Khalife Bile Mohamud, WHO Representative.

The Federal Minister Mir Ejaz Hussain Jhakrani in his address highlighted the significance of voluntary blood donation and informed about government’s initiatives to promote this healthy activity. He appreciated the efforts of NACP to promote this noble cause.

The Minister informed the audience about the health sector priorities of the present government and assured NACP his full support in establishing the proposed National Blood Transfusion Service project in Pakistan.

The Secretary Health, Khushnood Akhtar Lashari, congratulated the NACP for organizing activities to celebrate the World Blood Donor Day. He also acknowledged the efforts of NACP in developing the National and Provincial PC-1s for the National Blood Transfusion Service project.

Dr. Hasan Abbas Zaheer, National Program Manager (NACP) made a presentation on the background and significance of the World Blood Donor Day and informed that about the activities held in different countries all over the world was to pay tribute to the voluntary blood donors. The representatives of Care International and Plan International also spoke on the occasion.

Dr. Nauman Mujahid, Deputy Programme Manager, NACP, presented the vote of thanks.
