At the signing of the Organ Donor Card at Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation. Karachi the  Federal Health Secretary, Suleiman Ghani stated that the government was strictly committed to prevent any sort of exploitation under the garb of human organ donation and transplantation.

He informed that no distortion will be made in the actual spirit of Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Ordinance 2007.

“My very presence at SIUT and signing the Donor Card is reflective of my personal view as well as that of government’s stance towards the Ordinance,” said the health secretary.  He further stressed that people must not overlook the fact that human organ donation has to be voluntary.

He also down-played the impression that proposed amendments, forwarded by three MNAs were to bring about major changes in the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Ordinance, favouring the lobby involved in commercialization of organ donation and transplantation.

“Every member of parliament has the right to bring about Private Members Bill and get an issue or law discussed. It needs to be taken as a law being revisited”  added Suleiman Ghani the federal health secretary.

He mentioned that the proposals forwarded by MNAs has been placed before the Parliament’s Steering Committee on Health for discussion. The Ordinance is there and has to be implemented in its actual letter and spirit with due attention to inculcate spirit of volunteerism among the people.

The spirit behind the Ordinance is to save precious human lives which could be mainly done through voluntary donation of organs, after ones death, he reiterated.

“I, as a health service provider, have signed the Donor’s Will Card to set an example for others to follow” Federal Health Secretary said.

On the occasion he also took a round of different sections of SIUT and appreciated dedication of the SIUT team.  He was accompanied by Prof. Adib-ul-Hasan Rizvi, Dr. Syed Anwar Naqvi and Dr. Zaigham Abbas
