Free Treatment of HIV/AIDS patients being ensured by Health Dept

To mark the World AIDS Day 2010, Sindh AIDS Control Program (SACP) in collaboration with Social Student Forum arranged HIV/AIDS Awareness Walk. A Press Conference was also held at Karachi Press Club.

The walk started from Arts Council of Pakistan and calumniated at Karachi Press Club. Representatives of Infection Control Society of Pakistan and other social organizations also took part in the walk, besides a large number people.

Provincial Health Secretary, Syed Hashim Raza Zaidi speaking as the Chief Guest at the Press Conference informed that funds for HIV/AIDS have not been stopped and the Health Department of Sindh is ensuring free treatment to patients of this disease. He further said that NGOs and people should also cooperate to eradiate this disease from the country. Poverty and unawareness also cause rise in the disease adding that 100,000 people are affected by HIV/AIDS in Pakistan, out of which 3000 are registered in Sindh. Different donors are also helping to eradicate the diseases, while media’s role in this regards is an exemplary one, he said.

Social Students Forum Chairman, Nafees Ahmed Khan and Vice Chairman Rubina Khan said that efforts are underway to get protection from different diseases. Health Official Sara Gul said that iit s also mandatory to apprise eunuchs about prevention measure against HIV.AIDS so as to save them.

Dr. Abdul Majeed, Dr. Jamaluddin Shaik and Dr. Salman Safdar were also present on the occasion.
