Institute of Bio-Medical Technology, Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS) established forensic and molecular biology laboratory for deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) testing. It is the first DNA lab in Sindh that will help identify bodies and offenders in sexual assault cases and ascertain paternity disputes.
The Laboratory was inaugurated by Chief Minister, Syed Qaim Ali Shah inaugurated the forensic and molecular biology laboratory for deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) testing and Institute of Bio-Medical Technology established by the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS) at a ceremony held at CM House on Thursday.
Addressing the Inaugural ceremony, Syed Qaim Ali Shah said that it was very important technology to identity missing persons, unidentified bodies or ascertain paternity dispute not only to ensure justice to aggrieving party but also to curb the crime as well. This laboratory would help judiciary by using, biological specimen such as blood, semen, saliva, urine, hair, teeth and boon for forensic DNA, in addition to ascertaining qualitative and quantitative analysis of poisons in medico legal cases. He also stressed upon medical fraternity to work for better care and cure to hepatitis patients.
