The Inauguration Ceremony of “Kitab Khana & Gosha-e-Yousufi” and “Endoscopy Suite” of National Institute of Liver and GI diseases (NILGID), DUHS was held recently at a local hotel in Karachi in which a large number of participants from all work of life actively participated.
As Governor Sindh Dr. Ishrat-Ul-Ebad Khan was out of town, Mr. Rauf Siddiqui, Provincial Minister for Commerce & Industries was the Chief Guest on the occasion. He congratulated the Vice Chancellor, DUHS, Prof. Masood Hameed Khan and his team on their progress and for showing high level of commitment and motivation for the promotion of literary activities.
He acknowledged that the work which was supposed to be done by Sindh Govt, is being done by Dow University. He announced a grant of 0.5 m for liver centre and 0.2 m for Gosha-e-Yousufi on behalf of Governor Sindh, Dr. Ishrat-Ul-Ebad Khan. He also announced to name a SITE region road as “Shahrah-e-Yousufi”.
Prof. Masood Hameed Khan, the Vice Chancellor of Dow University of Health Sciences in his speech mentioned the accomplishments of Dow University and also mentioned about Gosha-e-Yousufi, which is established at public library section of DUHS.
Dr. Rana Qamar Masood, Chief Organizer & Director, NILGID in her address initially mentioned the life his dedicated services towards Urdu literature. She also explained the concept of Gosha-e-Yousufi and the available facilities only with its pictures. Regarding Liver Institute, she said that the liver disease is the 3rd most common disease of Pakistan, hence three Liver centres have been established by Dow University, the First Liver Centre, (Sarwar Zuberi Liver Centre) was established in 2004. The second Liver centre (National Institute of Liver and GI diseases) (NILGID) was established in Jan 2007 and now the Third one has been established at Dow University Hospital at Ojha Campus, where all the indoor and outdoor treatment facilities including Intensive care treatment and Endoscopy facilities will also be provide, besides other facilities, at bare minimum cost. She also mentioned about the upcoming program of Liver Transplant for which MoU has been signed by a Singapore University.
The comparer of the program was Anwar Maqsood. He also narrated few scripts from the books of Yousufi Sahib. The audience thoroughly enjoyed Zia Mohyuddeen during the narrations of Yousufi Sahib in his own style. Most spell bound session was of Mushtaq Ahmed Yousufi, which was thoroughly enjoyed by the audience.
Life time achievement award was presented to the legend Mushtaq Ahmed Yousufi. The Vice Chancellor Prof. Masood Hameed Khan presented DUHS memento to the Chief Guest. Before the formal ceremony the Inaugural Stones of Ghosha-e-Yousufi and Endoscopy Suite were unveiled by the Chief Guest.
