Dow University to set up new DUHS Campus & Hospital at DHA City

The Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) has signed a Memorandum of Under-standing (MoU) with Pakistan Defence Officers Housing Authority, Karachi (PDOHA) for the establishment of new Campus, 500-bed Tertiary Care Teaching Hospital along with a Liver Transplant Unit at the DHA City.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by Brig (Retd) Inam Karim, Secretary DHA and Prof. Shaikh Nadeem Ahmed, Registrar DUHS respectively in the presence of Governor Sindh Dr. Ishrat-Ul-Ebad Khan, Prof. Masood Hameed Khan, Vice Chancellor DUHS and large number of faculty members besides number of distinguished guests.

According to MoU, the DUHS Medical Complex will be established in three phases. In first phase Medical Centre would be established by 2014-15 which will provide OPD facilities with modern diagnostic machines and treatment facilities by trained specialists. In the second phase 500 bedded hospital tertiary care hospital will be established, having state of the art operation theatres and other modern medical facilities by 2018. In the third phase, a medical college will be established with all required facilities for the medical students by 2020.

Governor Sindh Dr. Ishrat-Ul-Ebad Khan who initiated the deal of DUHS with DHA said that the new initiative of Dow University is a significant step forward towards provision of best medical and health care facilities not only to the residents of DHA city but also to the surrounding areas and the entire Sindh Province.

Industrial Linkage for Anti Snake Venom Production

The Dow University has acquired all species of Snakes in its animal house and as per required protocol about twenty horses are hyper immunized against the snake poison. The serum of the horses has also been collected to have further process for commercial production of Anti-Snake Venom. Industrial linkage has been developed with Macter International (PVT Ltd), a well-known Pharmaceutical Industry which has agreed to collaborate with DUHS for commercial production of Anti Snake Venom and any other vaccine or pharmaceutical preparation on large scale, as a service to the nation. Eventually producing highly effective Anti-Snake Venom and other vaccines, within the reach of a common man in Pakistan at very low cost.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in this regard was signed between Macter Inter-national and DUHS and was inked Prof. Masood Hameed Khan, Vice Chancellor, DUHS and Misbah Uddin, Chairman International in the presence of Governor Sindh Dr. Ishrat-Ul-Ebad Khan, faculty members and distinguished guests.

Under the arrangement the two partners would focus on production of high quality pharmaceutical (API & formulations) that were in accordance with the critical health requirements of the country.

Allotment of Newly Constructed Apartments

The Ojha Institute of Chest Diseases (OICD) was established in 1942 mainly for Patients of Tuberculosis to be admitted and treated. Separate residential Colony for its employees was also established for lower staff, which was in dilapidated condition, despite frequent repair, causing severe hard-ships to the employees, working day and night at TB hospital.

Dow University constructed new apartments for these employees for which funds were approved and sanctioned by the Sindh Government. The construction of the apart-ments were completed in the shortest possible time.

The allotment papers of the apartment were given to the residents of old ruined houses by the Governor Sindh and Chancellor DUHS Dr. Ishrat-Ul-Ebad  Khan in the presence of Vice Chancellor DUHS Prof. Masood Hameed Khan, faculty members and other distinguished guests.•
