Sindh Governor & Chancellor, Dr. Ishrat ul Ebad Khan has said that Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) has become a renowned and distinguished brand name which has reached every nook and corner of the world. He said this while addressing at the Inauguration Ceremony of newly refurbished Moin Auditorium at Dow Medical College, DUHS. Prof. Masood Hameed Khan, Vice Chancellor, DUHS and senior faculty members of the University were also present on the occasion.
Governor Sindh, DUHS Dr. Ishrat Ul Ebad Khan said that it is very old auditorium in which he attended classes as a student and pleased to see that auditorium has been renovated to meet the international standard, while maintaining its antique structure, to facilitate the students not only for lectures but also for seminars and symposiums which are held very frequently at Dow University. He stressed the great need of such huge auditoriums in the universities, where lot of academic activities continuously take place for the update of knowledge of the students as well as the faculty, to have the academic standards at par with International universities.
Dow has now become a brand, by virtue of the standard of education and the excellent performance of its graduates who are globally placed at very Prestigious Positions. The University during its establishment since 12 years has acquired international fame, and is the fastest growing university, which started with only 3 constituent institutes and have added more than 60 new Institutes/Departments of various health related disciplines, providing high standard community health care services at minimum cost.
He further said that he was proud to be a student of this great University and to have been able to contribute for its progress and propagation. Every student should contribute according to his or her resources for making their alma mater more better, he added. He said that for a common man the success of DUHS might be surprising or looking like a fairy tale but for him it was not. The whole team under Prof Masood Hameed worked tirelessly to turn this dream into reality, he observed. He further said that he was proud to be a student of this great university and to contribute for its progress and propagation. Every student should contribute according to his or her resources for making their alma mater better, he suggested.
Prof. Masood Hameed recounted the progress of the University since its inception. He further said that the governor had played a vital role in rapid growth of the University. He said that since 2003, when the DMC was given the status of a university, the enrolment has gone up from a mere 2,500 students to 6,500 students this year. The enrolment of students of post-graduation has increased from 250 students to around 1,000.
Prof Junaid Ashraf, Principal Dow Medical College said that this journey had been full of hurdles and bottlenecks which were dealt with utmost hard work by the entire team under the guidance of Sindh Governor.
Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ebad extended all possible help and assistance for realisation of this dream, he added. In the end, Prof. Masood Hameed presented DUHS memento to Dr. Ishrat Ul Ebad Khan.
