Coordinated efforts needed to control HIV/AIDS in Sindh

Enhanced HIV/AIDS Control Program of Sindh organized a two-day 2nd Conference on AIDS in Sindh at a local hotel in Karachi. The aim of the Conference was to identify the right approach and step to accelerate the Fast Track Response to HIV/AIDS in Sindh Province whereas the theme of the Conference was ‘Accelerating HIV / AIDS Fast Track Response’.

The Conference was inaugurated by Sindh Health Secretary Dr. Usman Chachar. UNAIDS Country Director for Pakistan and Afghanistan Dr. Mamadou L. Sakho, Dr. Qamar Abbas, Dr. Rajwal, Dr. Nasir Sarfraz, Officials of different government, NGOs, CBOs, researchers, public health specialist, UNFPA,USAID,WHO, GFA and stakeholders form all districts of Sindh participated in the conference.

Dr. Usman Chachar sharing his views on the occasion stressed the need of creating more awareness about HIV/ AIDS. He appreciated the efforts of SACP efforts and said that conference will provide opportunity with a scientific approach for all stake holders.

Dr. Mamadou Sakho from UNAIDS Pakistan congratulated the SACP team for organizing the AIDS Conference and hoped that the Conference will an initiative to accelerate fast track response to control HIV epidemic in the province. Furthermore it will also provide knowledge shearing, experience through interactive sessions and meeting with National and International Crusaders on HIV AIDS.

Dr. Younis Chachar, Provincial Program Manager (SACP) gave a presentation regarding aims, objectives and achievement of program.   The sessions for commu-nities, religious leaders, scientific, STIs and uniform personnel sessions are the focus of conference.
