A meeting was held recently at Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) to institutionalize the transfusion medicine education in Pakistan. The meeting was chaired by Prof. Dr. Masood Hameed Khan, Vice Chancellor, DUHS. Also present on the occasion were Dr. Hasan Abbas Zaheer, National Programme Manager, National Blood Transfusion Programme (NBTP), Dr. Rafiq Khanani and Dr. Agha Akbar from DUHS. The GTZ Technical Assistance Team from blood transfusion project including the Technical Experts, Dr. Rafi Janjua, Dr. Zainab Mukhtar and Mr. Usman Waheed also attended the meeting.
NPM gave an overview about the recent developments in the national blood transfusion program at the National and Provincial levels and further highlighted the continuous need of Human Capacity Building, Trainings and Education of BT Professionals. It was decided that a MoU will be signed between Dow University of Health Sciences and National Blood Transfusion Program.
In addition a training module for technicians and technologists will be developed and shared with DUHS and NBTP by the GTZ Technical Team.
