Cancer Patients Welfare Society (CPWS) NIMRA, Jamshoro in collaboration of Liaquat University of Medical & Health Sciences (LUMHS) Jamshoro arranged “Cancer Awareness Walk” to mark the World Cancer Day. The walk started from LUMHS Main Campus to NIMRA, Jamshoro. The aim of the walk was raise awareness among the masses. Chief Guest Prof. Shafi Muhammad Jatoi Director Academics, Jamal Mustafa Syed, Commissioner Hyderabad District as Guest of Honor, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Aslam Uqaili, Vice Chancellor MEHRAN University of Engineering & Technology, Jamshoro / Muhammad Saleh Rajar Registrar LUMHS Jamshoro, and Deans, Surgeons, Students, and a large number of general public participated in this walk.
In the Seminar, Dr. Naeem Ahmed Laghari, Director NIMRA highlighted the topic “Debunk the Myths“ and focused how the risk of developing cancer can significantly be reduced through simple measures by changing life style. Tobacco use, particularly smoking, is the single biggest cause of cancer in the world, responsible for more than a quarter of all cancer deaths, including cancers of the lung are attributed to tobacco use, An urgent action is be taken to raise awareness about the disease and to develop practical strategies to address cancer. About 30% of cancer can be prevented through screening, and by healthy life style. Our aim is to help you to understand how you can take steps to prevent cancer and live a healthy long life.
Prof. Shafi Muhammad Jatoi, Director Academics LUMHS Jamshoro, said that this awareness walk is a right way to disseminate information through print and electronic media to the general public and also emphasized to arrange this type of walk in future for public awareness and appreciates the efforts of NIMRA for arranging this walk.
Jamal Mustafa Syed, Guest of Honor has appreciated the efforts of NIMRA, for arranging this awareness walk and emphasized to arrange this type awareness programs in future in the rural area of sindh to disseminate the knowledge about the prevention and early detection of cancer.
