AKU maintains its position as the best medical university in HEC ranking

Aga Khan University has maintained its position as the top medical university in Pakistan in the Higher Education Commission’s latest ranking of public and private universities in the country.

Following the QS World University Ranking criteria, HEC has ranked Pakistani universities on two parameters, quality and research, to get a reasonable reflection of higher education development in the country.

HEC also ranked the top universities in several categories to demonstrate standing by subject. Each category has several performance indicators designed to capture the full range of university activities, from quality assurance measures to teaching quality and research.

In the medical category, AKU was ranked the best followed by the University of Health Sciences, Dow University of Health Sciences, Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, Khyber Medical University, and King Edward Medical University.

While announcing the ranking, HEC Chairperson Dr Javaid R. Laghari said that the primary purpose of the ranking exercise was to drive the higher education institutions towards improved quality and research, and promote a culture for participation in the world rankings.

Dr Laghari informed the media that from the next year OIC will also adopt HEC’s criteria for ranking the universities of its member countries.
