Abbott Academic Alliance launches “Back Pain Understood”

Abbott Laboratories Pakistan through the platform of Abbott Academic Alliance launched a Back Pain Campaign to create awareness on Back Pain, among doctors and consumers.

Elaborating the concept of the Back Pain Campaign the Chief Guest Dr. Hassan Abbas at the Launching Ceremony organized by Abbott Laboratories recently at Karachi said that back pain is one of humanity’s most frequent complaints and is generally an area which is mostly misunderstood since much attention is not paid to it.

He further stated that the concept of Abbott Academic Alliance is not only to create awareness but also to prevent the masses from diseases.Pain is a problem for anyone at any age and back pain is one of the major causes of disturbing quality of life. Physiotherapy is a method to treat patients with different exercises. It has three aspects i.e. stability, strengthening and stretching.

Physiotherapy has been neglected for quite a long time and its aspect to improve the life of patients is lost. The major way of treating back pain is to treat its root cause which needs to be identified, assessed and examined along with differential diagnosis.

Abbott Laboratories Pakistan has developed a video demonstrating back pain and identifying its causes. Different types of exercises have been shown in this video and assessment methodology is also elaborated.

Arshad Ahmed, Medical Director, Abbott Laboratories Pakistan in his introductory remarks said that the company has decided to launch a campaign according to its academic theme which is “PHYSIOTHERAPY”. Under the umbrella of physiotherapy, Abbott will be treating different common and frequently occurring problems. The first and foremost is back pain. The campaign is based upon three important pillars i.e. print campaign, video campaign and workshop.

Dr. Sarmad Maqbool, Director Marketing & Strategy, Abbott Laboratories Pakistan in his address said that Abbott is at the forefront of medical education and it has been arranging different workshops regarding epidemic alliance.

Dr. Aun Anees, Product Manager, Abbott Laboratories Pakistan said that their campaign used guidelines in collaboration with American Pain Society and American College of Physicians which has been provided to the doctors for better understanding of back pain management.

Abbott Laboratories had also dwelled the diagnostic tools that doctors need. They are covering the masses and providing pure academic services to doctors and patients without even mentioning their product in this campaign.  This video shows differential diagnosis and it is a tool to facilitate doctors.
