17th National Psychiatric Conference

Pakistan Psychiatric Society organized the  17th   National Psychiatric Conference at Hyderabad.  The two-day  Psychiatric Conference was  held on December 8-9, 2007.

The Organising Committee of PSYCON 2007 comprised of : Patron Prof.   Noshad Ahmed Shaikh, Dr. Abdul Hameed Memon as Chairman Dr. Darya Khan Laghari, Organising Secretary.

The Theme  of the Conference was ‘Investment in  Mental Health a National Priority’.  The   PSYCON 2007 was organized with the commitment to bring together  working for the alleviation of persons suffering from mental disorders into the main stream of the society as useful citizens of the country. The PSYCON 2007  provided a unique opportunity to meet the challenges facing the community, communicate the ideas and converting them into action. All mental health professionals were invited to join in this effort. The scientific programs were addressed by  eminent experts on different aspects of the mental health.

Dr. Darya Khan Laghari, Secretary Organising Committee welcomed the participants to  Hyderabad  which is the second largest city of Sindh. The city has three universities for higher education: the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, University of Sindh, Mehran University of Engineering, Agriculture University Tando Jam, they are the centres of excellence in higher education.

The Organising Committee members with their team about worked hard for the suuccess of Psychon 2007. They and their colleagues, they  worked  to make it successful. Credit is also due to participation of Psychiatrists and Psychologists from all over Pakistan.

In all twenty eight papers were presented. The papers were of high quality and much useful. The State of Art Lecture by Brigadier Mowdat Rana on “Psychotrauma Shakes, Brakes and Stakes”, was very knowledgeable. The speech on  the Theme of the Conference” Investment in Mental Health, a National Priority” was befitting and liked by audience.
